Loan waiver funds to be raised by new agriculture body

Naidu said the govt was planning to mobilise financial resources for FEO

Rajahmundry: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu hinted at waiver of farm loans at one go, initially for small and marginal farmers, from January 2015 by mobilising financial resources through Farmers’ Empowerment Organisation in AP.

He said this while addressing people at the launch of Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru programme at Angara village of Kapileswarapuram mandal in East Godavari on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said the government was planning to mobilise financial resources for FEO through several channels including bankers, and use that money to waive farm loans. AP had proposed to clear loans in a phased manner through five installments of 20 per cent each from October 22 as a Diwali gift to farmers.

He assured the farmers that no banker would visit their homes to collect money forcibly to clear farm loans.

“I take full responsibility on this issue. The input costs have gone up with no remunerative price for your produce. The farmers who used to raise two crops in a year in Konaseema region were forced to go for crop holiday,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that the government was equally interested to reach out to Dwcra women by setting up a corpus fund worth about Rs 8,000 crore to improve their lot by involving them in several income generating activities including maintenance of sand reaches.

He assured the women that their products could be put on sale globally through e-commerce soon and asked them to be vigilant against running of unauthorised liquor retail outlets.
