Balram sees Hitlerism in PM Narendra Modi’s swachh drive
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former union minister Shashi Tharoor may have accepted the cleanliness challenge of the Prime Minister, but back home young Congress MLA V.T. Balram has tried to draw a similarity between Mr Narendra Modi and Hitler on the issue.
In a Facebook post accompanied by a picture of Mr Modi cleaning the streets of Delhi and a 1935 photo of Hitler removing garbage, Mr Balram criticised the Prime Minster for his misplaced priorities. His comments also reflected the sentiments of actor Kamal Hassan who had recently stated that cleanliness was not a publicity stunt.
Mr Balram said it was good that there was no political face-off between those upholding Gandhian philosophy and those responsible for his killing and everything ended with cleaning up of some fallen leaves on the roads. He sought to know from the Prime Minister whether leaves had polluted the country and endangered environment.
He accused the Modi government of clearing “development projects” worth Rs 2 lakh crore, which had been blocked because of the threat of forest destruction, in haste without any fresh inspection or evaluation. “For whom is this challenge?” the MLA asked .
