Andhra Pradesh against ban on bull fights

Srinivas criticised animal rights’ activists for opposing the cock and bull fights

Vijayawada: Agriculture minister Pattipati Pulla Rao on Saturday said that the state government would move court to get the ban on cock and bull fights lifted.

Participating in a function of NTR Memorial Ongole breed bull exhibition and competitions at Bhatlapenamarru village of Krishna district here, Mr Pulla Rao said that the cock and bull fights were banned by the courts, but the state government would do its best to lift the ban.

“The tradition is ancient, and the government will encourage it, while ensuring that there is no betting,” he said.

Meanwhile, health minister Kamineni Srinivas criticised animal rights’ activists for opposing the cock and bull fights.

“Farmers like the bull fights very much,” he said and regretted that the rights’ activists did not realise this.

Mr Srinivas said that the issue would be discussed in the Cabinet meeting and the government would take steps to lift the ban in the near future.

MLC N. Rajakumari, former MLA M. Venkata Subbaiah and several other TD leaders were present.
