Tamil Nadu BJP said that the agitations should not affect people
Chennai: BJP seniors who have so far been cautious in not criticising the agitations of AIADMK party cadres protesting against the Bengaluru court verdict against AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa, now claim that they respect the “feelings” of the AIADMK members but the agitations should not affect people.
Expressing concern, BJP senior leader and Union minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprise c. “If anything happens to the party leader, the cadres are bound to be affected. There is nothing wrong if the agitations are held democratically without affecting people,” he said.
“We respect the feelings of the anguished AIADMK members who are upset over the sentencing and conviction of the former chief minister but, at the same time, the agitations should not cause any hindrance to the general public,” says Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, BJP state president. Stating that reports indicated that some traders and even people were “forced” to agitate, she said affected party workers should protest “democratically”.
Taking potshots at those attempting to drag the BJP into the issue, she reiterated, “Law has taken its own course in the disproportionate assets case.”
Turning to other issues, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said the BJP would emerge as a viable alternative force in Tamil Nadu.
The senior leader who stepped into the khadi showroom in the city on Saturday, appealed to the people to patronise khadi products and support Prime Minister Modi’s call to purchase at least one khadi product. “Also, make our Prime Minister’s initiative of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan a reality,” she urged.
