2 medical colleges asked to furnish full admission list

The actual fees would be decided by the committee after scrutinizing the infrastructure in the colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: The admission supervisory committee headed by Justice J.M. James has asked Kannur Medical College and KMCT Medical College to furnish the full list of candidates admitted to their colleges before October 7. This was to ensure that the colleges had completed their admissions in a free and fair manner. The deadline for admissions to medical colleges had ended on September 30.

Justice James told Deccan Chronicle that though October 6 was earlier fixed as the date for submitting the details, as the day was declared a holiday, the date for submitting the applications was extended for another day. The committee has to submit the list of students admitted when the Supreme Court takes up the case relating to admissions in these colleges on October 8, Justice James said.

Both the medical colleges had been directed to file the hardcopy before the ASC, head office, Thiruvananthapuram for scrutiny and approval on or before 5 p.m. on the day. The Supreme Court in an order on September 12 had asked the committee to admit students who are willing to pay '5.95 lakh as tentative annual tuition fees to MBBS course, which is the fees prescribed in the prospectus in these colleges.

The actual fees would be decided by the committee after scrutinizing the infrastructure in the colleges. On the direction of the Supreme Court, the ASC had prepared a list of eligible candidates to the colleges. As per the prospectus, each college has got an intake of 150 seats for 2014-15. The committee had forwarded a list of eligible candidates to both the colleges for admitting the students.

The Supreme Court had directed Kannur Medical College to admit students from the allotted list by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) on Government fees for 50 seats. Thus, all the 150 seats of Kannur Medical College and 100 seats of KMCT Medical College are to be filled up according to the Supreme Court directions.
