Gang rapes teen, mother
Hyderabad: A minor girl and her mother were gangraped in the Ramanakkapeta village of Medak district on Friday midnight. Police said that some people kidnapped and raped a 17-year-old girl at a deserted place while she was returning home after celebrating Dasara in a friend’s house.
Later, as her 38-year-old mother was searching for her, one of the culprits took her on his bike to a deserted place promising to help her and raped her. The gang also robbed the mother and fled with her gold ear tops. However, the Medak police thinks that the mother was only robbed and not raped. “We are not sure if the mother was raped. We have sent both the victims for medical examination to confirm the allegations,” said a senior police official from Medak.
The incident occurred at around 10.30 pm when the girl was walking back home. “The victim said that a person came from behind her and covered her nose with a wet handkerchief. She then fell unconscious and does not remember anything. We suspect that the girl was taken to a deserted area and raped,” said Dubbaka inspector Rama Krishna Reddy.
As the girl did not come home her mother went out to search for her. One of the culprits met her on the way and said that he knew where the girl was. “He took her to another place, may be a few km away from the place where her daughter was assaulted and threatened her. He took her jewellery away and fled,” said the inspector. The woman alleged that she was also raped by the gang, who escaped after abandoning her.
The mother could not find her daughter for three hours. “At around 1 am, while she was trying to find the girl a man met her and told her that the girl is near the local temple. After tracing the girl she approached the village panchayat,” said a source from Dubbaka.
The police intervened after the villagers informed them. The police has booked a case for rape and a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The police took two suspects into custody and has started interrogating them. However, the police has not yet revealed their identity.
