Navy for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

The Navy had deployed a large contingent for sprucing up the waterfront from Rajendra Maidan to Marine Drive

KOCHI: The Southern Naval Command has decided to make Swachh Bharat Abhiyan an ongoing process in the city without restricting itself to the activities on October 2. Apart from participating in the clean city mission, it has also planes for wide range of activities at Naval Base such as eco-friendly garbage management practices, green initiatives such as tree plantation and a core team has been formed to monitor it.

The campaign on Thursday was jointly inaugurated by Mayor Tony Chammany and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral SPS Cheema jointly after paying homage to the Father of the Nation.

Councillors of the Corporation, the deputy mayor and senior officers from the Southern Naval Command were also present for the inauguration. The Navy had deployed a large contingent for sprucing up the waterfront from Rajendra Maidan to Marine Drive and from Thevara to Vathuruthy Village.

Naval personnel were seen removing garbage and cleaning the area with brooms and disposable bags all along the road from Gandhi Square to High Court junction including Marine Drive and Subhash Park. At Fort Kochi, excise and fisheries minister K.Babu inaugurated the beach cleanliness drive in the presence Dominic Presentation, MLA. Led by by DIG TKS Chandran, Commander Coast Guard District (Kerala) and Capt Satish Shenai, Commanding Officer INS Dronacharya, a team of 150 Coast Guard and Naval personnel participated in the programme.
