Mammootty endorses PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Clean India Challenge’
Kochi: Actor Mammootty was not on the list of celebrities Prime Minister Narendra Modi had chosen to spread awareness on cleanliness, but the actor put up a Facebook post supporting the Prime Minister. "Happy and proud to see our PM initiating the Clean India Challenge, I too support this good cause and I will do my part and will request all my fans and well-wishers to do the same", Mammootty posted. "Don’t wait, Act wisely… WE ARE THE CHANGE !!!" (sic) he added.
Modi initiated the cleanliness campaign inspired by the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Modi has asked celebrities to nominate nine more people to join the campaign and make it a success. Though Mammootty posted an update he is yet to come up with a challenge. Recently, he initiated successful Facebook campaigns like Addicted to Life and My Tree Challenge. The Addicted to Life campaign was launched in liaison with the State Government while the actor personally initiated the My Tree Challenge (MTC) which became a hit. Through MTC, Mammootty planted a sapling and challenged others to follow it up.
More than 1,59,621 people followed the tree challenge. Several celebrities like south Indian actors Suriya, Vijay, Sudeep, Mahesh Babu, Bollywood actor Bipasha Basu, Malayali actors Fahadh Faasil, Shweta Menon, Vineeth Sre-enivasan, Nivin Pauly and Aju Varghese accepted the challenge. According to sources close to Mammootty, the actor had come back this week from holiday and would start working on the challenge soon.
