Verdict on Andhra Pradesh Bar Council reserved
Hyderabad: Justice P. Naveen Rao of the Hyderabad High Court has reserved orders in a petition seeking to declare the functioning of the AP state Bar Council to be in violation of the AP Reorganisation Act.
S. Prabhakar, a law graduate, moved the plea stating that he has come to the High Court to enroll his name as an advocate in the “Telangana Bar Council” after completion of law course from a college in the city. He said the authorities at the existing council informed him that there was no separate Bar Council to enroll as a member for the law graduates of Telangana state.
The petitioner contended that the AP Reorganisation Act has specifically stated of having separate Bar Councils for both the states. The counsel representing the Bar Council of India submitted that the existing Bar Council would continue till establishment of separate high court for the state of AP. The counsel said that the Act stipulates that till constitution of separate council for Telangana state, the existing council will enroll the law graduates of both the states.
