Deve Gowda joins PM Narendra Modi's Clean India campaign
Hassan: He may not agree with his politics, but former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda grabbed a broom and swept the Hassan railway station in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan (cleanliness drive) on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, here on Thursday.

Mr Deve Gowda, who was accompanied by his party workers, first cleaned the roof of the railway station and then the floor, starting from the main entrance of the station and sweeping for a distance of 50 meters. In all, he spent nearly 20 minutes cleaning the station in his Lok Sabha constituency.

Later, the JDS supremo distributed pamphlets to passengers at the station asking them to get involved in the cleanliness drive and keep their surroundings clean. Promising to bear the cost of installing a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Narasimharaja Circle in Hassan, Mr Deve Gowda wrapped up his effort calling the Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan “a good idea” and suggesting that it should not be restricted to just a day in a year, but become a part of every day life.
