‘Swachh Bharat’ launched in Chittoor

Tirupati: Central and state government flagship programmes ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Janmabhoomi - Maa Vooru’ got off to a big start across the Chittoor district on Thursday.
Minister for environment and forests Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, who launched the ambitious ‘Janmabhoomi - Maa Vooru’ at the district headquarters, Chittoor, noted that the state government was on a ‘mission’ to bring back the state onto the development path with the strong support of the people and said the ‘Janmabhoomi - Maa Vooru’ was a first step in that direction.
The minister said that the state government had launched four programmes including Janmabhoomi - Maa Vooru, NTR Sujala Sravanti, NTR Bharosa pension scheme and Clean Andhra Pradesh on October 2, commemorating the birth anniversary celebrations of the Mahatma Gandhi.Shifting his focus to the benefits of the flagship schemes of the state government from Chittoor district’s perspective, the minister said that the state government under ‘NTR Bharosa’ would be disbursing the increased pension amount of '1,000 to the aged, widows and others and Rs1,500 to the physically challenged across the district.
He pointed out that a sum of Rs32 crore was sanctioned to disburse pensions to 3.12 lakh people in the district.Mr Bojjala also launch-ed the NTR Sujala Sravanti which got underway at select places in 12 out of the 14 constituencies minus Tirupati and GD Nellore. District collector Siddharth Jain, TD MLAs and officials of the district administration took part in the launch of the government initiatives on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the nation-wide cleanliness drive ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiy-an’ also got underway across the Chittoor district on Thursday as one and all from different walks of life including government officials, politicos, students, men and women cutting across all age-groups taking part in the mass cleanliness drive across the 14 constituencies of Chittoor district on Thursday.
