Cleanliness Week in schools from October 9
School education directorate has asked schools to submit a report on activities carried out
Chennai: Following PM Modi’s ‘Clean India’ campaign, the Tamil Nadu school education department has asked all school students to observe ‘cleanliness week’ from October 9 to 15.
Students and teachers have been told to take a pledge and clean the school premises. School headmasters have to repair damaged doors, windows, furniture, sports materials and clean up garbage next to the school.
The school education directorate has asked them to submit a report on activities carried out during the week.A circular has been sent to chief education officers, district education officers and school headmasters telling them to conduct the clean-up activities in schools. The list of work that should be carried out during the week has been attached with the circular. “The school campus and playground should be clean. Unwanted vegetation on the campus should be cleared and water tanks should be cleaned and filled with water.
Cobwebs in classrooms, staff rooms and libraries should be removed and all the walls should be whitewashed,” said the circular.The directorate has asked the school managements to use the funds available under the maintenance grants given through Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.
“Apart from cleaning, students should be involved in cultural programmes and cleanliness should be the theme for them,” said the circular. The school education officials informed teachers to advise students about importance of bathing, brushing teeth and washing hands before and after eating.
