Thiruvananthapuram: There is growing disgruntlement among Youth Congress (YC) leaders, who are now too senior to be with it, as they feel they are not being given opportunities elsewhere in the party such as in the District Congress Committees (DCCs).
When Mr V. M. Sudheeran took over as Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president in the new year many of the former Youth Congress leaders were elated believing that he would accommodate them in the DCCs and the KPCC, but have been left disappointed.
“Mr Sudheeran has so far done nothing to promote young blood in the party except giving additional posts to MLAs like V. D. Satheeshan (vice president) and P. C. Vishnunath (general secretary),” alleges a Youth Congress leader, adding that the current state leadership is also delaying the appointment of six KPCC secretaries from among the previous committee members of the YC.
“When Mr Ramesh Chennithala was PCC chief there was better unit management. But now everything is falling apart. Except on the booth level committees, the youth leaders are being denied opportunity on every forum, ” complains a 37- year- old Congress leader from Thiruvananthapuram district.
Youth Congress president, Dean Kuriakose has now suggested to the party high command and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee that the norms be changed to give 50 per cent representation on DCCs to newcomers. Describing the KPCC’s decision to open doors to block committee members who have put in a decade of service as unfair, Mr Kuriakose says it's time the party gave the young more opportunity.
