Railways solves garbage issue
Kochi: The Railways has started a novel way of tackling the menace of garbage. It’s now appealing to passengers to upload pictures on twitter, of garbage and other waste dumped on tracks and at railway premises.
“Divisional Railway Manager Sunil Bajpayee has given directions to act on the basis of pictures of garbage uploaded on twitter page #tvcdrive#. The public can upload pictures of garbage and mention the place where it was found. The railway staff will clean it on priority basis,” a railway official said.
“Since the division is vast, it's not possible to deploy staff everywhere. So we'll seek the response and do the cleaning at those places mentioned, on priority," he added. One of the major complaints of passengers is with regard to the garbage woes at railway stations and their premises.
Another initiative is to make available modern cleaning equipment like heavy duty scrubber drier at a maximum number of stations in the division. “Now we’ve made available machines like heavy duty scrubber drier, flipper machine, heavy duty vaccum cleaner, compressor sprayer telescopic pole with attachments and heavy duty jet cleaning machine at stations like Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kollam, Kottayam, Thrissur, Nagercoil, Aluva, Ernakulam North, Changanassery, Kayamkulam and Varkala”, the officer said.
This comes even as the Railways is all set to launch the cleaning campaign ‘My Railway, Clean Railway. “A signature campaign is being planned and a flex board will be put up in front of stations. The public can affix their signatures and express their consensus over the new ventures,” he said.
