National Green Tribunal imposes Rs1 lakh cost on petitioner
The money will be remited in favour of Jammu and Kashmir relief fund
Chennai: The southern bench of national green tribunal on Wednesday imposed a cost of Rs1 lakh on a petitioner who sought to withdraw a PIL challenging the Andhdra Pradesh government’s move to sell over 11,000 metric tonnes of red sanders through global auction.
Based on the petition of A.V.A Kaasaali of Anna Nagar, Chennai, the bench, comprising its judicial member, Justice M. Chockalingam, and expert member R. Nagendran, on September 17 granted an interim injunction restraining the Andhra Pradesh government from selling the red sanders through auction. On Tuesday, the bench pulled up the petitioner when his counsel made a plea to withdraw the PIL and directed him to file a detailed affidavit mentioning the reason for making his plea and a petition for advancement of petition.
When the matter came up before the tribunal on Wednesday, the bench imposed a cost of Rs 1 lakh for withdrawing the PIL and directed to remit the amount in favour of Jammu and Kashmir relief fund.
In the original petition, Kaasaali sought a direction to restrain the Andhra Pradesh government from selling 11,000 tonnes of red sanders though global tender, which was slated for September 19. He said the move violated various Central and state government laws.
