Hyderabad: Art directors play an important role in films. If you look at recent films like Bheemavaram Bullodu, Drushyam or Loukyam you can see and are bound to appreciate art director Vivek’s work. Making quality sets within limited budgets is one of Vivek’s best qualities.

Vivek completed his graduation in architecture from Anna University in 1996, he then collaborated with art director P. Krishna Murthy. Later, Vivek joined Sabu Cyril, popular art director as assistant, during 1997-2003 and worked for various films.

Vivek’s first film as an art director was Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana and he bagged the prestigious Nandi Award for his work. Since then, he has worked in more than 20 films, across Telugu, Bengali, Kannada and Tamil film industries.

One of the highlights of his work is that he builds eco-friendly sets. He says, “Recently when we erected a police station and house set for Venkatesh for Drushyam, the producer and the director wanted to cut some coconut trees as they did not want them. But I erected the set without cutting those trees and was appreciated for it,” recalls Vivek.
