BJP seniors for Maharashtra campaign
State BJP leaders to seek votes in Tamil areas
Chennai: India’s financial capital is all set to be swathed in Tamil, as it goes to polls next month. While the local leaders would invoke Marathi, a battery of BJP seniors from Tamil Nadu who will fly to Mumbai soon to campaign for the saffron party, will address voters in the Tamil dominated areas. The saffron party leaders, according to sources, would cash in on the predominant Tamil voters and garner votes for the party candidates highlighting the achievements of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
Party high command, which has worked out a campaign schedule involving several star campaigners and Union ministers, is determined to ensure a victory as it is fighting the polls without Shiv Sena as its ally for the first time in 25 years. Mr Modi to expected to launch his campaign in Mumbai on October 4. “We have already furnished a list of members who would campaign. Once it is finalised we will leave for Mumbai,” says Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, state president who will be leading the BJP team. Along with her national executive member L. Ganesan, national secretary H. Raja and state vice-president M. Chakravarthy are likely to campaign in the poll-bound state where the BJP is pitted against the Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
Union minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprises Pon Radhakrishnan would also pitch in during the election campaign in Maharashtra. The last time the BJP seniors campaigned was in Vadodara and Varanasi from where the party's Narandra Modi contested in the April Lok Sabha elections. Prior to this, they had campaigned during the assembly election in Gujarat.
“Most of the senior leaders would be heading for Mumbai once the dates too are finalised,” Mr Chakravarthy said. “But before this, we plan to clean up a slum near the Central Railway station on October 2, as part of the Prime Minister’s appeal on ‘clean India’ campaign,” he added.
