Water assured for 4.16 lakh acres for first crop in Andhra Pradesh
Nellore: Irrigation Advisory Board decided to provide water for 4.16 lakh acres for the first crop through Somasila and Kandaleru projects and the water release will commence from October 25. Minister for urban development, Dr P. Narayana made this announcement at the end of the meet held here on Tuesday.
Reacting to the concern expressed by the legislators, the minister said that he would take the issue related to de-silting of tanks and irrigation canals to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
All the legislators and water users association heads demanded a comprehensive probe into misuse of funds in package works. Dr Narayana has directed the revenue and irrigation officials to carryout survey over encroachments on the irrigation channels in Nellore city while reacting to a demand.
Irrigation officials said that they have made proposals ready to take up operation and maintenance of 212 water bodies at an estimated cost of Rs 4.08 crore.

Raghavendra Reddy and collector N. Srikant were present.
