Jayalalithaa to stay in jail for another week, bail plea to be heard on October 7
Bangalore: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister, J Jayalalithaa will have to remain in jail for another one week as Karnataka High Court adjourned the hearing of her bail plea to October 7, next Tuesday.
Jayalalithaa, her close aide Sasikala Natarajan and relatives V N Sudhakaran and J Elavarasi are lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bangalore since Saturday after being convicted and sentenced by a special court in a disproportionate assets case.

Lawyers supporting Jayalalithaa protested outside the Karnataka high court following its decision to defer the hearing of the bail petition.

Meanwhile, Ms Jayalalithaa reportedly refused to meet her successor and TN Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Tuesday, who had come to meet her in the Central Prison.

In Chennai, various associations of the Tamil film industry held a silent fast before the Chepauk Government Guest House to condemn the conviction of Ms Jayalalithaa.
Actors, directors and producers, including Sarath Kumar, T.Shiva, Thaanu, Kunjumon, Ramarajan, Vikraman, J.K. Riteesh, R.K. Selvamani, Bala, Deva, Manobala, Bhagyaraj, Suriya, Karthi, Vikram, Sivakarthikeyan, Prabbu, Vikram Prabhu, Srikanth, Sathyaraj, Vemal, Soori, S.J. Suryah and others took part in the fast. Veteran actor S.S. Rajendhran broke the fast at 5 pm by offering fruit juice to everyone.
