Delhi Metro Rail Corporation staff clean worksite, station
Kochi: Commuters who reached the Eastern entrance of the Ernakulam South railway station on Tuesday morning were taken by surprise when top Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officials were seen cleaning the premises with brooms and shovels.
The nearly 50-member team from the Kerala region cleaned the land owned by the Greater Kochi Development Area (GCDA) there as part of the nationwide ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. Right from Project Director P Sriram to Class 1V staff, all were part of the two-hour long exercise.
“The cleaning was extended to metro worksites too. The dust, sand, scrap and waste material lying on the worksites from Aluva to Maharajas College and those on SA Road were cleared,” said Sriram. However, unexpected heavy rains in the afternoon proved a dampener. But, the officer said, “This is not a one-day campaign. We’ll keep the worksites clean and take special care in disposing waste materials without leaving them on the roads,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, metro authorities finally repaired the Mamangalam-Edapally section by filling the potholes and removing sand from the roads. Residents had complained of the worsening roads and the dust problem in the section.
