Khammam: ZPTC members, who jumped over to the TRS from the Telugu Desam, faced a tough time in the first general body meeting that was held here on Monday.
As soon as meeting commenced, TD MLC Potla Nageswara Rao found fault with the ZPTCs who changed parties and challenged them to resign from their latest ‘home’, and participate in the zilla parishad meetings after winning the elections.
“The ZPTCs dumped all their moral values and changed the party after they won on TD tickets,” he said. It must be recalled that 17 ZPTCs, including chairperson G. Kavita joined the TRS after being elected on Telugu Desam tickets.
Responding to the objections, TRS MLC Balasani Laxminarayana said that every person has a right to choose his or her party.
He said that the ZPTCs changed the party as per the democratic principles and there was nothing wrong in it.
Congress MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar said that it was not proper to change parties after being elected. He said that the voters were confused as the ZPTCs had defected from their original parties.
ZP chairperson G Kavita, who tried to defend the defections of ZPTCs, said that they took the decision so that Telangana could be developed as ‘Bangaru Telangana’.
Later, seven committees, including medical and health and education, agriculture, taxes and planning, were constituted in the general body meeting.
Khammam MP P. Srinivasa Reddy said that the thousands of people have been suffering due to dengue and malaria and the medical and health department failed to control the situation.
MLA Ajay Kumar said that three persons died due to denguein Raghunathapalem, 5 km away from Khammam.
