Telangana set to reclaim prime plots

The Urban Land set a limit of 1,500 sq.mt. for an individual in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: It’s now the turn of prime land parcels, where plush vehicle showrooms, media houses etc. have come up, to receive notices from the government for retrieval. These premium plots, along the main roads of Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, have market values running into several crores.

The plots, which came into the government’s kitty under the Urban Land Ceiling Act, also include a 1,000 sq. yard plot at Banjara Hills Road No. 12, which has a high-end car showroom. There is also a 600 sq. yard plot along the main road connecting Jubilee Hills and Film Nagar, adjacent to a media house.

T. Chandrakala, the mandal revenue officer, Shaikpet mandal, said, “There are over 30,000 sq. yards of land under Urban Land Ceiling that were served notices for retrieval in the mandal.” Those who have not responded to the notices are being booked under land grabbing cases. So far, there are over 40 such cases of land grabbing.

The Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act, aimed to prevent concentration of land in the hands of few, had set a limit of 1,500 sq.mt. for an individual in Hyderabad.

However, patta holders (having several acres of land) sold the surplus to third parties, who in turn made fake layouts and sold them to individual buyers in the form of plots over the years.
