Vijayawada: Neerukonda in Mangalgiri mandal and the villages in Thullur mandal which are nearer to Mangalagiri town, Krishna River and Vijayawada are likely to be the epicentre of the AP Capital Region.

Sources close to Chief Minister, Mr Chandrababu Naidu, revealed that the Neerukonda to Thullur stretch, as well as the river front villages of Thullur mandal, are being actively considered for the capital location. Guntur Revenue officials have specifically been asked to work on these areas.

The AP government has entrusted ASCI of Hyderabad the work of selecting an integrated project advisory & management consultant for development of the new capital. The consultant shall prepare the concept master plan in six months. It will also prepare the detailed project proposal and other documents for the capital city development project.

"The capital region will be in the proposed Outer Ring Road of VGTM UDA area and the epicentre will be nearer to Vijayawada, Mangalagiri and to river Krishna. Neerukonda and Thullur areas have been identified as the most suitable places for the epicentre of the capital. Our focus on land pooling will be in this area,” said a source in Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's camp.

The bypass road now being developed by NHAI is also passing close to this area. NHAI project director, Mr G. Sridhar, said, “The bypass road starts from Khaja and touches Venkatapalem on the Guntur side via Mangalagiri mandal and on other side of the river it touches Gollapudi and then via Nunna area ends at China Avutupalli near Gannagaram."

Neerukonda is 11 km from National Highway 5. And a road via Kuragallu, Mandadam takes it to Krishna River. Meanwhile, Infrastructure Corporation of AP (INCAP)  was asked to appoint an integrated project advisory & management consultant, a communication strategy consultant and a master plan consultant for the capital city construction.
