Kin of excise official die in crash

Car rams into truck parked on the side of Outer Ring Road

Hyderabad: Customs and Central Excise joint commi-ssioner Mr M.V.V. Suryanarayana’s wife and daughter were killed in a road accident on the Outer Ring Road on Monday morning near Shamshabad.

Mr Suryanarayana’s brother-in-law was also killed in the mishap while his niece was critically injured and admitted to the hospital.

The Mahindra XUV 500 car, in which the victims were traveling, rammed into a stationary lorry on the roadside after the driver allegedly dozed off while driving, said Shamshabad police officials, adding that it was completely damaged.

The victims were Mr Suryanarayana’s wife Nagarama Laxmi (53), his daughter M. Sindhura (19), an MBBS student, and his brother-in-law Adiraj Mahinder (50). While the three died on the spot, Mahinder’s daughter, 21-year-old Aparna was rushed to a private hospital in a critical condition.

The family was travelling from Vijayawada to join Mr Suryanarayana for the Dusara festivieties in Hyderabad.

The incident occurred after 8.30 am, 1 km from Tondupally junction. “Mahinder was driving the car (AP16 CL 5252), and we suspect he dozed off while the vehicle was speeding; 50 yards ahead of the truck, the vehicle hit the side railing and then rammed into the truck. Half of the XUV went under the truck, trapping the victims inside,” said K. Uma Maheswara Rao, inspector of Shamsh-abad police station.

“He must have woken up (when the vehicle hit the railing), but could not control it before it hit the truck. However, the lorry driver had also not taken any precaution while parking the lorry on the road side,” added the inspector.

The truck’s driver had parked the vehicle as it had run out of fuel, and he was not around when the accident occurred. Police is searching for the vehicle’s owner and driver.

A case has been booked under IPC 304 A for causing death due to negligence. However, an accused has not been named in the FIR.

“We have started investigation, and once we find out who was at fault, the accused will be named,” said inspector Rao.
