Jayalalithaa refuses to meet anyone
Bengaluru: AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa, who is sharing the cell in the women’s prison at Parapannna Agrahara with her two close associates and co-accused in the disproportionate assets case, Sasikala Natarajan and Ilavarasi, is reportedly keeping to herself and has refused to meet her party people or former cabinet colleagues.
“No one has come to meet her since Saturday. She does not come out of the cell and has even refused to meet senior Karnataka prison officers, stating that she was uncomfortable. She is being given prison food and so far she has not asked for food from home or outside. On Monday morning, she asked for brown bread, which was given to her,” said official sources.
Besides stringent security, Ms Jayalalithaa also has prison doctors and nurses on call round the clock. “She has been medically checked and her health parameters are okay. She has not sought any special treatment,” said the officer.
Contrary to media reports, the AIADMK supremo is lodged in an ordinary cell with a fan and a broken television. “When we asked her she told us not to repair the TV. Her cell has an attached Indian style toilet,” the officer added.
“We are going by the rule book and treating her like an ordinary convict, because we are answerable to the court. We are, however, monitoring her security and health round the clock,” he added.
