Small reforms will lead to big changes, says PM Modi
New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday declared that small reforms in the legislature of India would lead to big changes in the country.
Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Prime Minister Modi said, "Moksha is achieved by making pilgrimages to holy sites, but some files in our ministry would not attain fruition even after travelling to several offices. That was not acceptable, so we made changes to fix that."
"Taala kitna bhi bada ho, khulti sirf choti chaabi se hi hai (No matter how big a lock is, it opens only with a small key). Small reforms will lead to big changes," he added.
Talking of reforming labour laws, the Prime Minister added, "After the Government was formed an atmosphere of trust has been created. In our country, issues of Labour law reforms may not be politically compatible but with the majority we got we will go for reforms."
"We're taking politically uncomfortable decisions that'll ultimately benefit everyone," he added.
Prime Minister Modi also talked of his vision of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country. "In our very first budget, we took initiatives on FDI. We want private investment in our railways in order to upgrade them," he said.
