Press ‘lotus’ button so hard that current is felt in Italy, says BJP president Amit Shah

The BJP president asserted that BJP would form the government in the state on its own

Chandigarh: BJP president Amit Shah on Monday took a jibe a Sonia Gandhi hinting clearly aking voter to vote for BJP. "Press the lotus symbol (BJP's poll symbol) so hard that when the button is pressed in Haryana, the current is felt in Italy," he said.

Amit Shah also ruled out chances of any post-poll alliance with former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala's INLD in case of fractured verdict in next month's Haryana assembly polls.

At the same time, he asserted that BJP would form the government in the state on its own. Seeking a clear mandate in favour of his party to put Haryana on higher growth trajectory, Shah, who was addressing a poll meeting in Ambala, sought to clear the air on the possibility of having any sort of tie-up with INLD after the October 15 polls.

"Rumours are being spread that BJP and Chautala (INLD) will come together. I want to make it quite clear that after the polls, we will not need anybody's support and a BJP Chief Minister will take oath," Shah said.

He also ruled out any post-poll tie up with another erstwhile NDA ally -- Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC). "There is no such possibility. We will form the government (in Haryana) with absolute majority," he said.

BJP had won seven out of the eight seats it contested from Haryana in the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year and the party is now fighting on all the 90 Assembly seats on its own after HJC parted ways with the saffron party recently accusing it of "repeated betrayal".

BJP also had an alliance with the Indian National Lok Dal and the two parties were coalition partners in the Om Prakash Chautala government nearly 15 years back.

"I have come here to appeal to you to bring BJP to power. Earlier, we used to fight only 10-15 seats and people did not get a viable alternative. But now we are fighting independently," he said.

Haryana BJP Legislature Party leader Anil Vij is seeking re-election from Ambala Cantt and Shah asked the people to make him victorious.

"Do you want to take Haryana to higher growth trajectory?" he asked the people an urged them to vote for BJP to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hands.

"We want 5-6 Smart Cities should come up in Haryana. We want to make Haryana No 1 in real sense," he said.
