Widow of slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare passes away

Her health deteriorated on Monday as she was declared brain dead

Mumbai: Kavita Karkare, widow of late Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare, passed away in a hospital in Mumbai on Monday.

Karkar was admitted to Hinduja hospital in Mumbai on Sunday after she suffered brain hemorrhage. She later slipped into coma.

Her health deteriorated on Monday as she was declared brain dead.

According to a statement by the hospital, "the two daughters and son have consented to donate their mother's organs for the treatment of needy patients."

Hemant Karkare was killed on the night of 26/11 near Cama Hospital, along with Additional Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte and senior police inspector Vijay Salaskar.
