Man climbs up cell phone tower waving party flag, shouting slogans
Coimbatore: Tension prevailed in Podanur on Sunday after an AIADMK partyman attempted to commit suicide by climbing a cellphone tower, demanding that officials release AIADMK party general secretary J. Jayalalithaa from prison, the police said.
According to the Podanur police, Paraman (40), an AIADMK cadre from Srinivasa Nagar in Podanur, suddenly climbed a mobile phone tower in the commercial complex in Podanur on Sunday evening and staged a protest.
He waved the AIADMK flag and raised slogans supporting Ms Jayalalithaa. He also urged the government to release her from the central prison or otherwise he would jump from the mobile phone tower and commit suicide.
However, the Podanur police and the Tamil Nadu fire and rescue service team persuaded him to give up his protest. They brought him down and sent him back home after a warning, the police said.
