Son kills alcoholic mother after quarrel
Bengaluru: A 21-year-old man bludgeoned his 45-year-old alcoholic mother to death in Thigalarapalya in Tavarekere police station limits in Ramanagar district on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Venkatamma. Her son Basavaraju has been absconding after the incident and the police are on the lookout for him.
According to the police, Venkatamma had become alcoholic after her husband’s death. She was living with her son while her daughter was married.
Basavaraj was working in a private company and was the sole breadwinner of the family. Venkatamma used to take money from him, consume alcohol and quarrel with him everyday over petty issues.
“Even on Saturday evening, she came home drunk and picked up a quarrel with her son. Despite his warning to keep quiet, Venkatamma continued accusing Basavaraj for not doing household chores. They soon got into a verbal duel following which Venkatamma assaulted Basavaraj. In a fit of rage he grabbed a wooden log and repeatedly hit on his mother’s head. Venkatamma collapsed and died on the spot while her son fled,” the police said.
The incident came to light when the neighbours rushed to Venkatamma’s house after hearing her screams. They later informed the police.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the mother-son duo used to quarrel daily and Basavaraj was fed up with her behaviour and preferred to stay away from home,” the police added.
