Dacoits lock up family in bathroom, loot house

Eight man gang took away 330 gms gold ornaments, laptop, tablet PC and three mobile phones

Bengaluru: An eight-member dacoit gang, armed with lethal weapons, locked up the family of an IT professional in the bathroom and looted their house at Avalahalli in K. R. Puram police station limits early Sunday.

The incident happened at the house of Devaraj, who was residing with his family in Kithaganur near Avalahalli. According to the police, a gang of eight masked-men, armed with revolvers and knives broke open the front door of Devaraj’s house around 3 am, while the family was fast asleep.

Hearing the commotion in the drawing room, the family woke up and rushed to check. They were shocked to see masked men ransacking their house and pocketing valuables. In a bid to stop them, Devaraj tried to resist a gang member and it made them turn violent.

They attacked the victim’s family and threatened to kill them. They later locked them up in the bathroom.

The gang took away gold jewellery weighing 330 grams, ' 80,000 in cash kept in an almirah, a laptop, a tablet PC and three mobile phones.

The victims, who later managed to free themselves, rushed to the police station and narrated their horror.

The police along with the dog squad and finger print experts rushed to the spot and examined the scene.

In his complaint, Devaraj told police that the gang members were aged between 20 and 30 years and were speaking Hindi, police said.

A case of dacoity has been registered at K R Puram police station.
