CLT20 BT vs HH: Hobart Hurricanes outplay Barbados Tridents
Mohali: In the 16th game of Champions League T20 (CLT20) Hobart Hurricanes (HH) knocked out listelss Barbados Tridents (BT) at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.
Requiring just 114 runs to win, Hobart Hurricanes lost Ben Dunk in the first over bowled by Mayers. However, skipper Paine and Blizzard steadied the ship a little before the aggressive left-hander got out in the seventh over.
Hurricanes lost two more wickets in quick succession as Tim Paine and Travis Birt got out. While that gave Tridents a hope of a comeback, the pair of Shoaib Malik and Jonathan Wells played it sensibly to guide Hobart Hurricanes to a win. This was the third win in a row for a side from Australia.
The win not only sealed their place in the semifinals, but it also made sure that Barbados Tridents have not even an outside chance to make it to top four.
Earlier, batting first, Barbados Tridents did not start off on a bright note as Doug Bollinger dismissed Neil McKenzie in the second over. Hobart Hurricanes then made sure to put Tridents in further trouble when Ben Hilfenhaus struck twice in space of two balls to leave the side from West Indies to 26/3.
For some time, the duo of Franklin and Carter tried to rebuild the inning. However, their partnership was broken when Doherty castled Franklin. Jason Holder then joined Carter in the middle. But he too could not accompany Carter for too long and fell off Doherty's bowling in the 14th over. Tridents were 70/5 by then.
The slide continued for Barbados Tridents as the next 5 batsmen could only add 43 runs to Tridents' inning. While Hobart Hurricanes were on a roll, the side from West Indies were listless as they faced Hurricanes' bowling.
