Demand for Rayalaseema State gathers momentum

Leaders of the Rayalaseema Rashtra Samiti staged a dharna at District Collectorate
Anantapur: Rayalaseema Rashtra Samiti state president Kuncham Venkata Subbaiah on Saturday demanded that a separate Rayalaseema state be formed comprising the districts of the region.
They demanded that High Court Bench be set up in the Rayalaseema region and also that a package worth Rs 10,00,000 crore be granted for the development of the backward region.
Leaders of the Rayalaseema Rashtra Samiti staged a dharna at District Collectorate and later submitted a memorandum to the District Collector in this regard.
They demanded that a separate Rayalaseema state be carved out comprising Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool and Chittoor districts on the lines of Punjab and Nagaland.
They recalled that Rayalaseema people had the right to select state capital and a High Court according to Sribagh Pact. RRS leaders alleged that Coastal Andhra leaders hatched a plot to set up capital in between Vijayawada and Guntur and feared that grave injustice would be meted out to the people of Rayalaseema under the ir rule.
They lamented that Rayalaseema region would never witness development as long as it remained a part of residuary AP. RRS leaders also demanded that all the irrigation projects in the region be completed as soon as possible and that ample employment opportunities be created for the people of the region.
They warned of intensify ing the agitation for a separate state cause. RRS secretary D. Lakshminarayana, leaders Yella Reddy, Ram Kumarand others participated in the protest.
