CM Siddaramaiah not in favour of Yede Snana either
Mangalore: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who has often spoken out against superstition, doesn’t seem a fan of ‘Yede Snana’, which has devotees rolling on the offerings made to the gods in a modified version of the controversial ‘Madey Snana’ that has them rolling on the leftovers of Brahmins on plantain leaves at the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya and a few other temples dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya.
Asked for his views on the recent court order allowing ‘Yede Snana’, Mr Siddaramaiah told reporters here on Saturday, “Prasadam (Naivedyam) is meant to be consumed, not rolled on. Our demand has always been to put a stop to ‘Made Snana’. There is no need for any controversy on this issue now.
The government will follow the directions of the court.” Progressive thinkers and rationalists had gone to court against ‘Madey Snana’ a few years ago and the government had at the time filed an affidavit saying it would stop the practice and allow ‘Yede Snana’ instead. The high court has now given it its okay. But disappointed at the ruling, progressive thinkers have urged the government to ban the modified practice too.
