Anantpur gets tourism boost

State to develop toursim in Gutti, Penugonda, Lepakshi
Anantapur: Anantapur District Collector Solomon Arokiraj on Saturday assured to develop historically significant Gutti, Penugonda and Lepakshi, areas into tourism centres.
The Collector, along with Revenue Divisional Officer Hussain Sahab and District Tourism Officer Neelakanta Reddy, participated in the programme organised by the district tourism department on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
As part of the programme, the Collector trekked the historic fort in Gutti town. Earlier, the members of Gutti Fort Conservation Committee accorded a grand welcome to the district collector.
Mr Arokiaraj offered prayers in the Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple atop the hill fort. On the occasion, he visited the grave of Sir Thomas Monroe and the then adopted mandals of Gutti rulers.
Later, addressing the tourists, he said that the fort was a spectacular monument. “Apart from protecting the wonderful constructions inside the fort, the government will take all steps to display the artillery equipment to attract the visitors,” he added.
“With the help of police department, we will take all steps to curb hunt for treasure troves in the hill fort,” the Collector said. Stating that Gutti, Penugonda and Lepakshi would be developed into tourism centres as part of the government’s plan to develop the state into a tourism hub, he added that developing these areas into tourism centres would provide direct and indirect employment to several people.
