3 women breathe life into Bathukamma with songs

Their songs are being played at almost all Bathukamma venues

Karimnagar: Singers Anthadupula Ramadevi, Telu Vijaya and Mamindla Padmavathi have captured the essence of the Bathukamma festival with the soulful rendition of folk songs that have become very popular among the women folk. Their songs are being played at almost all Bathukamma venues.

Padmavathi, a BSc final-year student from Huzurabad, is known for the songs Okkesi Elakapande Gouramma... and Chittu Chittula Bomma, Shivuni Muddula Gumma.

“Bathukamma songs are not readily available for us, because no one had recorded them. I sang the songs so that the future generations can learn of them,” said Padmavathi.

Meanwhile, 30-year-old Ramadevi has sung several songs that convey the significance of the festival including Bathukamma Bathukamma Uyyalo, Bangaru Bathukamma Uyyalo and Ememi Povvuppoune Gouramma. In fact, the Bathukamma Bathukamma song was used in the movie titled Bathukamma, which was released in 2008.

Telu Vijaya’s songs Ooriki Uttarana Valalo… Udala Marrikinda Valalo and Ememi Puvvula Dandaleddame Gouriki are also very popular.
