Swachh Bengaluru or BJP poll ploy?
Bengaluru: With an intention of sprucing up Bengaluru, a city weighed down in recent years by excessive garbage, leaders of the state BJP have invited suggestions from BBMP corporators and party workers to launch “Swacch Bharath” campaign in a unique manner.
Following instructions from state unit leaders, the local unit has scheduled a meeting here on Saturday to discuss ways and means of providing a facelift to the city. Among those invited include BBMP corporators, according to party spokesperson and MLC Ashwathnarayana.
The local unit also plans to convert “Swacch Bharath” programme into “Swacch Bengaluru” across all wards in the city. “Before renaming the programme, we will take the suggestions of senior leaders of the party,” he said adding, “instead of cleaning posh localities of Bengaluru, we have decided to launch the initiative in areas marred by excessive garbage and filth. We have told our party cadre that cleaning neat and posh localities are of no use, and we have to focus on areas with lot of muck,” remarked a leader.
With BBMP elections round the corner, corporators belonging to ruling BJP have decided to make the most of “Swacch Bharath” programme. Some of them have volunteered to launch this initiative in their respective wards.
