Coimbatore: Garbage bins don’t just overflow and lie uncleared, they lack ‘transparency’ in Coimbatore. Earlier, garbage bins came with printed information on the ward number, the time and day on which the garbage would be cleared; the phone number of the sanitary inspector who needs to contacted in case of delay on non clearance of garbage and number 92822 02422 where complaints could be registered by SMS.
But now these information that makes garbage clearance more efficient and ensures staff accountability are conspicuously absent on bins being placed nowadays.“Earlier when one finds the bins overflowing, they could immediately call the sanitary supervisor and inform him. If the answer that he gives was unsatisfactory, then we could send an sms to the corporation officials.
Now, no bins carry the details and we have to go scouting for the number to call the sanitary staff or register the complaint with the civic body ”, rues Muthukumar P, a resident of Periyar Nagar in Ramanathapuram.
