Madras high court grants HIV kid Rs 50000
Chennai: The Madras high court directed the state government to pay Rs 50,000 to a family of daily wage labourers towards the medical expenses of their child who is critically ill after being infected with HIV. While the family alleges that the child got virus following blood transfusion at Government Children’s hospital in Egmore, the hospital denied the same. Disposing of a petition from S Sorna, mother of the child, Justice S Vaidyanathan directed her to approach the appropriate civil court for the alleged tortuous liability for negligence.
“Taking note of the present health condition of the petitioner’s son, which was getting deteriorated day by day having infected with the dreadful disease, the authorities are directed to take necessary steps and provide better treatment to the victim child without any expenses being incurred by the petitioner and extend all relief packages if any provided by the state government for the victims of the AIDS”, the judge added.
