Jayaalithaa case: Intel agencies warn of emotional crowd
Bengaluru: Intelligence agencies have warned the city police to be ‘cautious’ and expect a huge ‘mixed’ crowd of people for the hearing of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s disproportionate assets case at the Special Court in Parappana Agrahara on Saturday.
“According to rough estimates we are expecting a crowd of around 15,000 people from Tamil Nadu to converge at the special court premises. This may not be a normal crowd, but of emotionally charged people and some of them with vested interests may also come in. Handling a normal crowd of 15,000 people is not difficult for the police, but handling a mixed crowd will have its own challenges. The police should gear up to prevent any mishap,” said a senior officer on condition of anonymity.
Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi has made elaborate arrangements to oversee the security and law and order situation in the city. “The city police have been given 65 armed platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police besides additional platoons from the City Armed Reserve and the Border Security Force. Some KSRP platoons have been called from other districts,” said the officer. One platoon of KSRP comprises 25 personnel.
“Tomorrow’s focus will be on security of the TN Chief Minister, her entourage, the judges of the special court and people. Maintaining law and order in the city and border areas is another priority along with traffic management in the city and on the national highways,” he added. Director General and Inspector General of Police Lalrokhuma Pachuau and Mr
Reddi are personally supervising the police deployment and bundobast for the event, which has been classified as “extremely” sensitive by the Intelligence officers.
