Bardhan said the Congress led UPA’s polices had paved the way for BJP’s huge victory

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI veteran Ardhendu Bhushan Bardhan has ruled out the possibility of any understanding between the Left and the Congress to fight the BJP stunt.
In an exclusive interview to DC a day after he celebrated his 90th birthday, Mr Bardhan said the Congress led UPA’s polices had paved the way for BJP’s huge victory. “Unless the Congress brings fundamental changes in its policies there is no possibility of any understanding with that party,’’ he added.
“But I regret Congressmen are not aware of what is happening to them. Rahul Gandhi is a big flop politically. There is no political leadership. The mother and son leadership was going on when they were in power and now they want to maintain status quo. Unless they think out of the box, it will be difficult for them to counter Sangh Parivar’s hardline Hindutva policies,’’ he said. Mr Bardhan said Modi Government had initiated several anti- people polices during its 120 days rule but the Congress failed to put up a strong oppsoitoin.
“Only Left parties relentlessly campaigned against authoritarian policies, concentration of power in one person’s hand and move to dismantle Planning Commission,’’ he added.
On the Left parties poor performance across the country and particularly in West Bengal, the veteran leader said; “I agree the Left will have to redefine itself and evolve an effective strategy to meet the new situation. In West Bengal and elsewhere, the Left will have to go down to the people and work with them closely.’’
Bardhan said the forthcoming party Congresses of the CPI and CPM would lay a fresh roadmap for the Left movement. On Modi’s US visit, the veteran leader said the BJP was making a strong bid to strategically ally with the US. “I can say for sure that the Modi Government will become every measure pro US in the coming days,’’ he added.
