Amritavarsham begins at Vallikkavu Math
Around five lakh devotees are expected to take part in the two-day birthday celebrations called ‘Amritavarsham 61'
KOLLAM: The 61st birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi began at the Vallikkavu Math on Friday with the Mata giving darshan to her disciples and conducting prayers for world peace and purification of human soul.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, ministers Ramesh Chennithala, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, V.S.Sivakumar and C.N.Balakrishnan, chief whip P. C.George, K. C.Venugopal MP and SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan will take part in the cultural meet on Saturday.
Around five lakh devotees are expected to take part in the two-day birthday celebrations called ‘Amritavarsham 61.’ A slew of charitable projects and technological innovations developed by the institutions under the Math will be announced.
Amrita Keerthi Puraskar for cultural contributions will be awarded to devotional poet S. Rameshan Nair. A series of ashram’s publications carrying Mata’s teachings will be released. A free mass marriage ceremony and distribution of free clothing to the poor will also be organized.
The proceedings on Saturday will start with Padapuja, the ceremonial washing of Mata’s feet followed by her annual birthday address. Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, vice-chairman of the Math, will hold a satsang. The devotees will also be hugged by Mata, who is known as ‘the hugging saint.’
