An unidentified person set the car on fire
Coimbatore: Tension gripped Thudiyalur on city outskirts on Friday after unidentified persons set on fire the car of the BJP councillor on Friday. The BJP corporator V.Vatsala claimed that it could be the handiwork of some political rivals as the party had garnered impressive vote share from her ward in the recent mayoral by-polls.
According to the Thudiyalur police, the ward no. 1 councillor, Vathsala had parked her white colour Swift car in a vacant plot opposite her house in Mani's Nagar in Thudiyalur on Thursday night. Her husband Varadaraj had gone to Tirupati along with his friends on Thursday
Around 2.30 am on Friday, her neighbours woke her up from sleep after they saw her car wrapped in flames. With help from her neighbours, Vatsala doused the fire, which partially damaged the vehicle, and lodged a police complaint.The trunk of the car was completely burnt. The police who rushed to the spot recovered an empty bottle reeking of petrol lying near the car.Thudiyalur police have launched a search for the miscreants who set the corporator's car ablaze.
