CLT20 BT vs CC: Cape Cobras beat Barbados Tridents by a run in super over
Mohali: Cape Cobras beat Barbados Tridents in a nail-biting encounter by a run in the super over in the 12th match of Champions League T20 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali on Friday.
After put in to bat first by Cape Cobras (CC), Jonathan Carter guided Barbados Tridents (BT) to a formidable total of 174 in their quota of 20 overs in the 12th match of Champions League T20 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali.
Here is the live cricket score.
BT 174/8 in 20 overs
CC 174/5 in 20 overs
Super over: CC 11/0 beat BT 10/0
Earlier, Barbados Tridents did not particularly have a good start as Dowrich got out in the first over off Charles Langeveldt's bowling. Barbados Tridents lost one more wicket in the third over when Reifer was run-out.
The side from West Indies though made a superb comeback as Munaweera and Carter smashed Cape Cobras bowling attack around the park. Munaweera was going all guns blazing in his 21-ball 42-run knock, but his inning came to an end when he was run-out in the 11th over.
While Tridents lost James Franklin quickly, Carter continued his merry ways and took Cape Cobras' bowlers for a ride. While his fellow batsmen did not last too long, Jonathan Carter did not allow that to hinder his soild show. The West Indian reached a well-deserved hundred and remained unbeaten on 111 which he scored in just 68 balls.
Barbados Tridents eventually put up 174 runs on board. While the target still remains well with-in range for Cape Cobras, the Barbados Tridents did a fine job to put up a formidable total on board after failing to have a good start.
Preview:
Cape Cobras are yet to go off the mark and they will be desperate to do that against Barbados Tridents in the Oppo CLT20 2014. Having lost both their ties, the Cobras have made life difficult. This match is a do or die situation.
The Tridents, on the other hand, were good on debut but could not overcome the heavyweights Kings XI Punjab. But they have the T20 experience (winners of Caribbean Premier League 2014) which places them slightly above Cobras.
Key players
Richard Levi (Cape Cobras): A good start can decide the fate of Cobras and the way he did it in the previous tie makes his wicket pricey. His 42 off 30 set the momentum for the team’s total of 184 at the end of 20 overs.
Jeevan Mendis (Barbados Tridents): When his colleagues were sent on leather hunt, this bloke kept the proceedings tight against the dangerous Punjab batting line-up. He picked up a couple conceding only 18 runs. In a batsman’s format, this bowler can keep them quiet.
