Bathukamma signifies Telangana tradition: MP

Khammam: The Bathukamma jatara, led by Telangana Jagruthi president and TRS MP K. Kavitha, added colour to the coal town of Kothagudem on Thursday. Carrying tastefully decorated Bathukammas on their heads, hundreds of women took out an impressive rally. Speaking on the occasion, the MP said Bathukamma signifies the tradition of Telangana.
She said that her mother has been expressing dissatisfaction with her for not visiting their house and taking part in Bathukamma even while going to many other houses. “You are our daughter but are not visiting us,” my mother says, Kavita told other women. To this, Kavitha said that she replied to her mother: “Every house in Telangana is my house and I feel at home in every place.”
Earlier, the TRS MP and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter offered prayers at Peddamma a temple and took part in special rituals held in connection with the nine-day Bathukamma festivities.She, along with other women, prepared Batukammas with a variety of colourful flowers and played kolatam with the women.
She also played Bathukamma along with the girl students of a private college. In the evening, Bathukammas in different sizes were taken out in a procession in the town.
The coal town came alive with tribal women, clad in traditional attire, marching through the thoroughfares with an array of colourful Bathukammas.
