No let-up in rain fury; 15 trees uprooted

The showers started around 6 pm and continued till late night

Bengaluru: The city came to a grinding halt following heavy downpour on Thursday evening inundating areas such as Richmond Town, Bannerghatta Road, Jayanagar, Cunnigham Road, Queen’s Road, Koramangala, Uttarahalli, Central Silk Board and Shivananda Circle.

The showers started around 6 pm and continued till late night. Citizens who left office in the evening were stranded due to slow moving traffic. The BBMP control room officials said they were flooded with complaints from various parts of the city. BBMP commissioner M. Lakshminarayan, who was monitoring the calls at the control room, said nearly 15 trees had uprooted in several areas including Majestic, Jayanagar, J.P. Nagar and Koramangala.

On the Mysore Road, the Gali Anjaneya Temple got inundated by rain water. Life was thrown out of gear for residents of KSRP quarters in Adugodi as water entered their houses.

In Majestic, rainwater entered Aparna Theatre resulting in power disconnection and the evening show had to be cancelled. Fire and Emergency Services personnel had a tough time shifting a bus, which got submerged near Anand Rao Circle. Met department officials said the city recorded 89 mm rainfall on Thursday evening, and have forecast heavy showers for the next two days.
