Madras High Court slaps jail term on two scientists
Chennai: Holding two top scientists of the country guilty of contempt of court, the Madras high court awarded three weeks simple imprisonment to them and levied a fine or Rs 2,000 each for their wilful failure to implement court orders in the matter of providing employment to a person.
Allowing a contempt application from Joseph Raj, a division bench comprising Justices S Rajeswaran and P N Prakash directed Dr V K Saraswat, the scientific adviser to Minister of Defence and Director General Research and Development, New Delhi and Dr G Malakondaiah, director, Defence Metallurgy Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, to surrender towards undergoing the punishment of imprisonment within one week, failing which the registry is directed to issue warrant of commitment to prison for undergoing the sentence imposed upon them.
