IPS trainee collapses during fitness test
Hyderabad: Extreme dehydration, fever and exhaustion before taking a physical fitness test are suspected to be the reasons for Indian Police Service trainee Surendra Lamba’s collapse at the Lumbini Mall Park on Thursday morning.
The 28-year-old trainee participated in a 16-kilometre run as part of the physical fitness test. He had already run 14 kilometres before collapsing. He was feeling very breathless. Suspecting a heart attack, the physical fitness trainer rushed him to Yashoda Hospital.
General physician Dr Guru Prasad, who checked Mr Lamba, explained, “The patient came in with low blood pressure, breathlessness and extreme exhaustion. The patient was suffering from fever, but was not ready to accept that he was not well. He had participated in the fitness test without realising that he was not completely fit.”
Evaluations by cardiologist revealed that his heart was in good condition. Dr Chandrashekar of the Police Academy said, “He is still suffering from high fever, but when he is asked, he claims he is fit and fine.” Mr Lamba has completed eight months of training and the doctors felt that he was pushing himself too hard without realising that he was not completely well.
Dr Prasad explained, “The dehydration levels were high and due to this he was exhausted. He is also complaining of vomiting frequently. These symptoms will take time to heal. Overall, his condition is stable.”
