Nellore: Gaiety and devotional fervour marked the first day of the nine-day long Navaratri festival in Goddess Durga temples across the district on Thursday. All the temples have been spruced up for the celebrations.
The festival commenced with the ritual Kalasa Sthapana by invocation and dwelling of Goddess Durga into the kalasham. Sri Changala Parameswari temple, popularly known as Changalamma temple in Sullurpeta, Sri Kamakshi Tayee temple in Jonnawada, Sri Rajarajeswari temple, Irukalala Parameswari temple and Kanyaka Parameswari temple were full to brim with devotees turning up in huge numbers to worship the Goddess.
