Bankers not yet ready with loan waiver data
It will take another 10 days for completing the process
KAKINADA: Banks have not yet completed preparation of data of farmers eligible for loan waiver as it is a difficult task for them to fill up 34 columns.
According to government instructions, the banks and cooperative societies should submit the reports and details of eligible farmers on September 25. But, according to bank sources, they could complete examination of nearly 2.50 lakh farmers’ accounts out of 7 lakh till now.
It will take another 10 days for completing the process. Initially, the government gave 31 columns to be filled by banks but, two days back another three columns like scale of finance, gender and others were added.
The banks said that already completed forms have to be revised with additional columns. They also said that they have to do the work without affecting the daily bank transactions. In rural areas, there are so many connectivity problems to streamline the accounts. However, the district collector Neetu Prasad is very keen on completing the process as early as possible.
She requested the bankers to speed up the process. Meanwhile, the bankers in East Godavari district disbursed Rs 1,415 crores to the farmers in this khariff season as against Rs 3,300 crore target.
The banks have to meet the target by September-end. But owing to loan waiver scheme for farmers, introduced by the state government, the bankers could not disburse it as the farmers did not clear their dues. The manager of Andhra Bank, which is the lead bank, Jagannadha Swamy, said that the loans had been disbursed to the farmers who had cleared their debts.
